Ladies in Oil and Gas Africa is the foremost organisation in the oil and gas sector in
Africa, strategically designed for women by women. A non-governmental organisation,
LIOG was initiated on the 13th of March, 2015 to cater to the diverse challenges faced
by females in a male-dominated energy sector, with an overarching goal to become the
voice and champions for women in the sector.
Taking cognisance of myriad challenges faced by the female gender in the sector, LIOG
is positioned to take CenterStage in the democratisation of opportunity access to
aspiring female sector players, while shining the light on already successful players,
utilising their wealth of knowledge to build, inspire and encourage a new generation of
female CEOs and professionals to participate in the 268-value chain sub-sectors in the
upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the petroleum industry.
LIOG is poised to boost female penetration into the Oil and Gas sector through
partnerships and strategic alliances to ensure the delivery of an equitable quota in the
implementation of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB)
objectives to realise 300,000 jobs by 2027. Critical to achieving this, LIOG stands at the
fore of dissemination of timely, relevant information to attract, educate and equip women
to participate in this future today.
A LIOG woman is a bold, strong, and change-driven oil and gas professional or
entrepreneur who is deliberate about taking up opportunities in the sector, and is willing
to adapt to the evolving landscape in the local, regional and global energy landscape.
The platform targets to build a 100,000 actively participating woman community in the
next five (5) years through expansion programs across oil and gas producing, and
energy-focused African states. Currently it boasts of an almost 10,000 virtual
followership-base, with a 600 registered membership strength in Nigeria.
LIOG rides on a three-point agenda in the pursuit of its goals, these include;
Industry Partnerships and Collaboration
Spearheading programs and events to enhance partnerships and collaborations
across different levels of professionals; career professionals, aspiring
professionals, successful entrepreneurs, would-be entrepreneurs, private
organisations, NGOs and government agencies within the sector. These will include networking events, and professional and business forums.
Research, Advocacy and Policy Development
Conducting strategic research activities with a goal to better understand the
institutional gender limitations and biases prevalent within the sector, utilising this
knowledge to build advocacy frameworks, and foster sensitization campaigns to
develop policy to improve the participation of women in the sector.
